This was an amazing workshop! I appreciated that I was able to have a lot of hands-on practice and was able to learn a lot of fundamental things regarding IS and how to express myself. It was even better than the hands-on workshop I took at WASLI! I hope to take the next iteration of this workshop for even more practice! Razaq is an amazing teacher.

I loved this workshop! I learned more in these four hours than most all day workshops. The participant involvement was wonderful. I am able to use IS knowledge to better understand my Ugandan Sign Language Deaf client. Would love a second workshop!

At the completion of this training, the participant will be able to:

  • Introduce themselves in IS
    • e.g., State name, hometown, profession, and at least two hobbies
  • The student should be able to initiate and maintain a short conversation using IS
    • e.g., “Hi, how are you? I’m fine. What do you do for work/fun?”
  • The student should be able to ask and respond to basic questions using IS
    • e.g., “What time is it?”, “Where were you born?”, “What countries have you visited?”
  • The student should be able to make a short narrative about a topic of their choosing using IS.
    • e.g., Name their favorite book/movie and brief summary, their favorite place to visit and why, their hobbies and how they are played/practiced…etc.
