Clin d’Oeil Festival: A Celebration of Deaf Culture and International Sign

The Clin d’Oeil Festival stands as a beacon of Deaf culture, celebrating the rich tapestry of sign languages and artistic expression from around the globe. Held biennially in Reims, France, this International Sign Language Arts Festival has become a pivotal event for the Deaf community and sign language enthusiasts worldwide.

A Celebration of Deaf Arts and Culture

Since its start in 2003 by the CinéSourds association, the Clin d’Oeil Festival has been dedicated to promoting sign language in all its cultural diversity and artistic forms. The festival showcases a wide range of performances—like theater, dance, cinema, visual arts, and street shows—all centered around sign language. It’s a space where Deaf artists shine and where visitors can fully immerse themselves in Deaf culture.

International Spotlight: Guest Countries

Each edition of the festival features a guest country, highlighting that nation’s unique Deaf culture and artistic contributions. Past guests have included Russia, Australia, the United States, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Canada, and South Korea. In 2024, Israel took the spotlight, sharing its rich colors and vibrant Deaf community through performances and art.

Engaging Performances and Activities

The festival offers an exciting mix of activities. From street art and concerts to workshops and dance floors, there’s something for everyone. One of the most popular events is the “Deaf Party,” where DJs and dancers turn up the energy for an unforgettable celebration.

Accessibility and Inclusivity

One of the best parts about Clin d’Oeil is its strong commitment to accessibility. The entire festival is conducted in International Sign, which makes it easy for Deaf people from all over the world to communicate and connect. It’s a true celebration of sign language as a global form of expression.

Looking Ahead

The festival continues to grow in popularity and impact. The next edition—the 12th—will take place from July 2 to 5, 2026. It promises to be another amazing gathering of Deaf artists, performers, and attendees united by their love of sign language and culture.
