Global advocacy for Deaf people doesn’t just happen at big public conferences. A lot of it happens in board rooms, where leadership teams set direction, review progress, and plan years ahead. That’s exactly what took place earlier this year when the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) Board met in New Delhi, India, for its 140th Board Meeting, the organization’s first board meeting of 2026.
Three Days, A Full Agenda
Over the course of three days, WFD Board members reviewed the ongoing work of the WFD Secretariat, assessed progress across the organization’s various initiatives, and worked to ensure WFD stays on track in its mission to advance the human rights of Deaf people worldwide.
A major topic on the agenda: preparations for WFD’s 75th anniversary, the milestone year the organization is celebrating throughout 2026, including a landmark conference planned for Rome in September. Board members also began shaping early plans for the World Congress in 2027, an event that will bring the global Deaf community together on an even larger scale.
